7de Laan was first broadcast on SABC 2 on April 4, 2000. It was created by Danie Odendaal and produced by Danie Odendaal Productions. The show was set in and around the fictional suburb of 7de Laan in Hillside, Johannesburg.
7de Laan was a huge success, becoming one of the most popular television shows in South Africa. It was also one of the longest-running soap operas in the world. The show won numerous awards, including the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) for Best Soap Opera and Best Actress (Chriselda Louw).
