Madonna was hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a Lisbon, Portugal hospital on Friday, April 29, 2023, with a “serious bacterial infection.”

Her manager, Guy Oseary, confirmed the news on social media, writing, “Madonna is recovering well after being admitted to the hospital for some routine tests that unfortunately revealed a serious bacterial infection. She’s been treated and is stable and recovering in the ICU.”

Oseary did not provide any further details about Madonna’s condition or the nature of the infection. However, he said that she is “in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery.”

Madonna is currently in Lisbon, Portugal, where she is rehearsing for her upcoming Madame X Tour. The tour is scheduled to begin on July 17, 2023, in Lisbon. It is unclear how the hospitalization will affect the tour schedule.

This is not the first time that Madonna has been hospitalized for a medical issue. In 2019, she was hospitalized for exhaustion and dehydration after a series of concerts in Europe. She was also hospitalized in 2006 for a severe case of sinusitis.
