Published By Everything ZA Travel
South Africa will host the 7th Global Alcohol Policy Conference (GAPC) from October 24 to 26, 2023, at the Cape Town Convention Centre in Cape Town. The conference is the leading forum for the world’s alcohol policy makers, advocates, researchers, civil society activists, and practitioners.
The theme of the conference is “Investing in people before profits: building momentum towards the Framework Convention on Alcohol Control.” The conference will focus on the need for proactive steps at both national and global levels to address alcohol harms.
Some of the topics that will be discussed at the conference include:
- The role of alcohol policy in reducing alcohol-related harm
- The impact of alcohol on children and young people
- The role of marketing and advertising in promoting alcohol consumption
- The impact of alcohol on gender-based violence
- The role of the private sector in reducing alcohol harms
The conference is expected to attract over 1,000 participants from around the world. It is a unique opportunity for policymakers, advocates, researchers, and practitioners to come together to share knowledge and best practices, and to develop strategies to reduce alcohol-related harm.
The GAPC is organized by the Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA), a network of over 500 organizations from over 100 countries. GAPA is working to create a world where alcohol is consumed safely and responsibly, and where alcohol-related harm is minimized.
The hosting of the GAPC in South Africa is a significant event. South Africa has one of the highest rates of alcohol consumption in the world, and alcohol-related harm is a major public health problem. The conference will provide an opportunity to raise awareness of the issue of alcohol harm and to discuss ways to reduce it.
